Although our UK summer, this year, has been pitifully lacking in consistently good weather now is the time of year when many people consider installing a garden swimming pool.

Admittedly, you need to be quite optimistic about next years weather, but you can always use a swimming pool enclosure to ward off the worst of the lousy British weather.

So what are the options? Well the simplest is an above ground pool. As the name suggests, these swimming pools do not require a huge hole in your lawn. They do, however, require a nice level surface with adequate clearance around the pool perimeter.

There are numerous types of above ground swimming pools, some with metal frames and some with wood. In fact there are a number of above ground pool kits that enable a competent DIY enthusiast to install their own, which is generally the most economical option.

In ground swimming pools are dug into the ground. This obviously requires more ground work than is required for an above ground pool, but this can still be achieved by a competent DIY enthusiast.

For a full and detailed description of the steps involved in preparing the ground and installing an inground pool you should view the videos available at this location: Installing an in ground swimming pool. You will see that it’s almost as easy as erecting a shed.

If you are considering installing a swimming pool in your garden I highly recommend that you invest in an Air Dome. If next year’s summer is as miserable as this one has been you will be thankful for the added protection that it provides against the weather. And an air dome will save an enormous amount on your swimming pool heating bills.

Whether you go for an above ground or inground swimming pool, I wish you lots of luck and lots of enjoyment in your new pool.

A recent swimming pool accident suffered by daughter of Fleetwood Mac drummer, Mick Fleetwood, serves as a sobering reminder to parents of the need for constant supervision around swimming pools.

On July the 18th Mick Fleetwoods 6 year old daughter, Ruby, was playing with her twin sister in a friends swimming pool when she swallowed a lot of water and became unconscious. She was revived using CPR and rushed to hospital.

Doctors reported that her injuries were potentially very serious but luckily she made a remarkable recovery leading to her being discharged from Los Angeles’ Cedar Sinai Hospital on 31st July.

The incident serves as a reminder to parents of how quickly a seemingly safe, supervised play experience can turn into a potential disaster. Without immediate emergency medical attention Ruby might have suffered serious long term injuries.

Remember, stay safe and stay cool around your pool. We wish Ruby a fast and complete recovery.

If you have the space and the cash a swimming pool in your back garden is a great way to get into shape, stay cool in the heat, and socialise.

The warm May weather is encouraging many people to consider installing a swimming pool into their back gardens. Owning either an above ground or even an in-ground swimming pool has never been cheaper as modern materials and manufacturing techniques combine to bring the costs down.

The cheapest and simplest option is generally an above ground pool. These can often be self-installed by a reasonably capable DIY enthusiast. In no more than a weekend you and your family can be enjoying your own, private swimming pool which is a great focus for barbecues and garden parties.

Above Ground Pools can often be installed in no time

Swimming pools are fantastic for socialising and children’s parties. An often overlooked aspect of pool ownership is that you will become incredibly popular as all of your children’s friends, and your friends, will want to come round for a splash and swim. If this warm weather persists through the summer, as the long range forecasts suggest, then your house and pool will quickly become a popular place for socialising, having fun and cooling down.
