Modern gizmos and gadgets are definitely cool, like the ipod, plasma TVs, laptops and the like. But a lot of modern furniture is a little lacking in quality. That’s why, whenever possible, I will choose an older, antique piece of furniture over a modern piece any day.

My partner and I were recently looking for a mirror to grace our living room wall above the unused fireplace. We’d shopped around at all the regular places like Ikea, Habitat and Heals but had found nothing that was particularly attractive. Then we started looking in a few antique shops and even went along to a couple of auctions. Unfortunately we didn’t find exactly what we were looking for, but a quick google search and I’d found Tony Williams Antique Mirrors. No more searching!

We found a beautiful English oval gilt wall mirror from around 1875 that was exactly what we were looking for. We’d looked at a number of overmantel mirrors but settled on the oval wall mirror as we felt it was more versatile (we may be moving house quite soon). It was very interesting to compare the quality of this mirror with those we had examined in some of the high street furniture stores. Whilst the high street prices are only a fraction of the cost of the antique mirror the difference in quality is immeasurable.
